Laugh at the Lunch Table

I once knew a little boy,

Who ran around full of joy.

The world has yet to destroy,

To me, you’re still that little boy.

The class clown who made us all laugh,

Who carried around the teacher’s staff.

The boy who was always in trouble at school,

Told lies cuz he thought it was cool.

What happened between then and now?

You ended up like this somehow.

You were supposed to take your wedding vows,

With that brown-eyed girl you crushed on for so long. â€‹â€‹

Once upon a time, we laughed at the lunch table,

Took the lab containers, switched the labels.

Carved names into the great old maple,

Once upon a time, we laughed.

In my mind, you’re still the child,

The child who ran free and wild.

Across the grass for miles,

‘Til your hair went wild.

He won every times tables race,

Wrote his answers in first place.

The one that would tell dirty jokes,

The kid with the wildest dreams and hopes.

What happened between then and now?

You ended up like this somehow.

You were supposed to take your wedding vows,

With that brown-eyed girl you crushed on for so long.

Once upon a time, we laughed at the lunch table,

Took the lab containers, switched the labels.

Carved names into the great old maple,

Once upon a time, we laughed.

Unshackled, unbound,

When you’re done with your time

Walk together, walk around

On the other side

We’ll laugh at the lunch table again

We’ll laugh at the lunch table again

We’ll laugh at the lunch table again

We’ll laugh at the lunch table again

I once knew him,

I want to believe I still do.

Back then, it was just the beginning,

Of the things he was bound to do.

Time waits for no one,

You live and then you’re done.

That prize you won,

You’re in for the long run.
